Tonantzin Mitre

Tonantzin Mitre is a Program Officer serving San José with Sobrato Philanthropies, where she partners with community organizations, schools, and local leaders to advance educational and economic opportunity. She works to build strong relationships, listen to community needs, and help shape investments that create lasting impact for children and families.

Before joining Sobrato Philanthropies, Tonantzin was a Program Officer at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, where she managed a $30 million-plus education portfolio and collaborated with nonprofit partners, funders, and cross-functional teams to develop strategy and advance equitable outcomes.

Her career began in early childhood education, where she spent nearly a decade improving programs for young children and families through classroom assessments, statewide initiatives, and research. That experience shaped her commitment to listening, using data thoughtfully, and strengthening systems that support communities.

Tonantzin holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political, Legal & Economic Analysis from Mills College and a Master of Science in Urban Policy Analysis & Management from The New School. A Gilroy native, she enjoys hiking, exploring local coffee shops, attending live concerts, volunteering in her community, and spending time with her two daughters.
