Enrique Romero
Program Officer, Policy & Advocacy
As Program Officer in the Policy & Advocacy team, Enrique leads education policy and advocacy grants, partnering with key allies to expand bilingual education across California and improve outcomes for multilingual learners.
Before joining Sobrato, Enrique worked at Social Policy Research Associates, where he managed multi-year evaluations of philanthropic initiatives focused on education equity, K-12 systems change, early learning, and family advocacy. He also served as a Program Officer at the U.S.-Mexico Commission for Educational & Cultural Exchange (COMEXUS), overseeing the Mexican Graduate Studies Program and cultivating partnerships with higher education institutions and government stakeholders. Enrique was a Fulbright recipient in 2016, teaching English at UNAM in Mexico City, and has held teaching assistant roles in Costa Rica, Italy, and U.S.-based Spanish immersion programs.
He currently serves on the board of Making Waves Academy in Richmond, California, giving back to the program that helped launch his own educational journey. Enrique holds a master’s degree in Education Policy and Management from Harvard Graduate School of Education and a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Spanish from Pitzer College.
Born and raised in the East Bay, Enrique lives locally with his husband. Fluent in both English and Spanish, Enrique is passionate about promoting multilingualism and creating equitable opportunities for all learners.
