About the Position

Sobrato Philanthropies seeks nominations and applications for a Finance Manager, directly reporting to the VP of Finance and Operations.  This position will be focused on a smooth and efficient flow of financial transactions from inception through reporting, ensuring that systems reconcile and appropriately reflect the grants and operating expenses as budgeted and ensure appropriate controls are in place for compliance. This role will be responsible for tasks related to FP&A, including annual budgets, monthly reporting and variance analysis, along with accounting and management and coordination of the annual Audit. The Senior Finance Manager will be required to educate, problem solve and service various stakeholders across the organization.  The position also oversees the Grants and Finance Associate, managing their duties, performance and providing career development.

 The ideal candidate will be thoughtful about process improvement, work flows and bottlenecks, and general efficiencies and optimizations for scalable growth.  In addition, they must have the ability to clearly communicate and think at a strategic level, define priorities, and pivot between various job duties while utilizing their strong analytical skill.

 

Key Responsibilities

Job Responsibility 1:  Build & Manage Financial Budgets, Forecasts, and Actuals Reporting

The Senior Finance Manager will build and manage budgets, forecasts and actuals reporting that scale as the company grows, for both finance and program staff to evaluate annual grantmaking and spending targets. These reporting tools will be used for bottoms-up budgeting and coordinated forecasting alongside program stakeholders, in order to achieve visibility and alignment on individual spends and annual projections.

Job Responsibility 2: Lead and Oversee General Finance and Accounting               

The Manager will present analysis at organization’s monthly financial and accounting review; manage the annual Audit by providing reporting, analysis and coordination; perform daily/monthly accounting tasks such as reclasses, invoice approvals, coding review and reconciliations. The Manager will consider improved processes, tools and education to improve efficiencies related to workflows.  They will manage contract administration for SP by providing coordination, support and due diligence with outside legal counsel. The Manager will also act as a conduit between finance/ops, the accounting team and program stakeholders.

Job Responsibility 3:  Grants Administration and Analysis

The Manager will support the Grants team with various financial analysis and administration including: grant docket reconciliation for board ratification lists, budget summary review and reconciliations, payments processing, planning and forecasts, reporting consolidation from Silicon Valley Community Foundation (SVCF), as well as other ad hoc projects.

Job Responsibility 4:  Sobrato Community Non-profit (SCNP) Building Program Support   

The Manager will support the Program Property team with finance and operational analysis and transactions related to:  lease administration and calculations, in-kind value reporting, tenant A/R, CAM statements, welfare exemption and property tax reporting, capital and expense budgets and forecasts and vendor contracts support.

Job Responsibility 5:  Manage Grants and Finance Associate with daily tasks, priorities and career development.   

Manage duties and performance of Associate whose tasks include:  accounts payable, vendor set-ups, invoice and grant approvals, various reconciliations, data entry, employee expense reports, grant payment administration, and other duties.

Qualifications (Know How)

Education / Training

Required

 Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, or related field

 At least 10+ years of progressive financial analysis and accounting experience coupled with 3 years of management experience.

 Experience working in philanthropy including family foundations, private foundations, corporate philanthropy, and/or community foundations is a plus/

 Experience or understanding of real estate property financials and impact investments is a plus, but not required.

Experience/Technical Skills

  MS Office with a strong knowledge of Excel

 Must be system savvy and willing to learn grantmaking (Fluxx) and financial (Yardi) systems.

 A tactical leader who can analyze and identify opportunities to engage stakeholders to enhance and implement effective user training on processes; effectively operationalize budget, forecast and variance reporting; enhance existing tools and workflows.

 Strong analysis and quantitative skills and the ability to automate and reconcile data.

Additional Information

The annual base salary range for full-time employees for this position is below. Please note that base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

·       $140,000 - $170,000 USD

·       Highly competitive benefits package
