B.J. Cassin
B.J. Cassin, Trustee, Sobrato Family Foundation
BJ has been a venture capitalist for over 30 years and has served on the boards of Cadence, Advanced Fibre Communications, Cerus, PDF Solutions, Maxtor and a number of private companies. Before becoming a venture capitalist, he co-founded Xidex Corporation in 1969 which achieved Fortune 500 status in 1987 with sales of $752 million and employing 7,000 worldwide. BJ's family has helped start college preparatory middle and high schools in economically-challenged communities throughout the country. Through the Cassin Educational Initiative Foundation, 18 Cristo Rey High Schools and 37 Nativity/Miguel Middle Schools were established between 2001 to 2009. Mr. Cassin sat on the Board of Trustees of Saint Mary's College of California for 8 years, serving as Chairman from 1995-1999. In 2015, BJ co-founded "The Drexel Fund", a venture philanthropy fund that invests and partners in the growth of high quality, financial sustainable networks of faith-based and other private schools. BJ sits on a number of private company boards and is on the Investment Committee of the Western Provence of the Jesuits. He graduated from Holy Cross College, is married and the father of 5 children, with 11 grandchildren, and resides in Los Altos Hill, California.
