B.J. Cassin, Trustee, Sobrato Family Foundation
Mr. Cassin is Founder and Chairman of the Cassin Educational Initiative Foundation, launched in 2000, to establish private, college preparatory middle and high schools in economically-challenged communities throughout the country. CEIF provided start-up funds for 18 Cristo Rey High Schools and 37 NativityMiguel Middle Schools. He was a founder of the Cristo Rey Network, serving as its Chairman from 2003 to 2009. He was also a founder of NativityMiguel Network in 2006 and served as its Chairman until 2011. Mr. Cassin sat on the Board of Trustees of Saint Mary’s College of California for 8 years, serving as Chairman from 1995-1999. Mr. Cassin is on the Investment Committee of the Western Provence of the Jesuits. In 2015, Mr. Cassin co-founded “The Drexel Fund”, a venture philanthropy fund that invests and partners in the growth of high quality, financial sustainable networks of faith-based and other private schools. Mr. Cassin has been a venture capitalist for over 30 years. Before becoming a venture capitalist, he co-founded Xidex Corporation in 1969, which achieved Fortune 500 status in 1987 with sales of $752 million and employing 7,000 worldwide. Mr. Cassin graduated from Holy Cross, is married, the father of 5 children, with 11 grandchildren, and resides in Los Altos Hills, California.
